10 October 2007 - 14:32Crabgrass and Foxtails! Aaaargh! Help?

major b asked:

OK, I am a neophyte when it comes to lawn care, but I have successfully transitioned my lawn from bermuda to fescue and have one of the healthiest yards in my neighborhood.

HOWEVER, my beautiful yard have been attacked by crabgrass and foxtails and I cannot get rid of them. I used weed and feed in the spring, and summer treatment in June, but they persist. I don’t want to use a product that will torch my grass to kill the invaders. I tried buying a product that was in a spray bottle, but my yard is too big and I have to many invaders to go around spraying single instances over the entire yard. Does anyone know of a product or method that I could spray or mix with my hose and cover the yard, killing the invaders but leaving my grass healthy?

Or any other suggestions? I’m dying here!

  1. For this year next spring when the forsythia is blooming use crabgrass preventive fertilizer timing is different from general.

  2. welcome to the world of lawn problems rules of thumb a broad leaf weed can be killed with out harming brass (narrow leaf weed) the only way to accomplish what your wanting with out brown spots on your lawn is to just weight and in the fall AS SOON as the grass goes dormant and the weeds arnt do what is called a POST EMERGENT ( this will kill all the green weeds still out and prevent winter weeds from germinating then in the spring just Jan or early Feb do a Pree emergent this will prevent any new germination to happen, DO not put it on bare ground you will get no growth !
