29 August 2007 - 3:04Can I change cutting height for lawn mower without draining oil/gas?

Nic asked:

I just got a cheap lawn mower from Lowe’s and didn’t really care that I had to adjust the wheel height manually since there is not a lever, as on most self propelled mowers, but now, in it’s median height, it is barely skimming the grass.

Now that I have it filled with oil and gas, must I drain the fluids to turn it over and adjust the wheel height? I know, maybe a stupid question, but I just don’t want to damage the machine. Thanks for your help!

28 August 2007 - 6:32Best (and cheapest) way to reseed?

Heidi B asked:

My BF and I just bought a beautiful house that I totally love. Problem is, it used to be occupied by three college guys who obviously didn’t take care of the lawn, (among other things!). The lawn desperately needs to be weeded since it looks like crabgrass and dandelions are thriving quite nicely. It also needs to be reseeded. What is the best and most cost effective way of doing this in time for Spring and Summer? THANKS!

27 August 2007 - 5:51How can I start my lawn mower?

Come Sail Away asked:

I have an old Craftsman series tractor lawn mower and I need to start it. I know the three necessary things to start an engine (compression, fuel, spark.)

I drained the fuel

I need to know where the spark plugs are and what they look like.

and how to test the compression.

25 August 2007 - 6:47Any advice on getting rid of ground ivy?

sillyscreennamegonebad asked:

I have managed to keep most weeds out of my lawn, except ground ivy. I have a neighbor that practgices no weed control ever, so it makes it difficult. I do not need a PERFECT lawn, and I try to use chemical free care, which works great for the most part, but does nothing for ground ivy. I thought about digging up the yard and starting over, it is that bad. With spring coming I plan on using a preemergent, but I can tell that the ground ivy is just ready to be unaffected and go forth and multiply. I don’t WANT to rip the lawn out, because , as I said, the neighbor does not care for their yard, and I will be right back where I am in three years without a line of defense anyway. SSSSso, can I get rid of it? Anyone know my options??? I am absolutely willing to go chemical here. Would prefer not to, but this is war afterall! ;) Unfortunately, I do not beleive getting help or inline with the neighbors is an option. I have created a barrier around the fenceline which helps some, but I need to deal with the problem I have IN my yard. I need to know what to use to get rid of it. What kind of spray, chemical or non, that is successful at killing this stuff. It is not an english ivy, I had that stuff and ripped it all out, but that wasn’t in the lawn. It is a creeping ground ivy that flowers in the spring and has pretty much taken over huge sections of lawn. Not the entire lawn, but where it is it pretty much killed out the lawn.
