How do I ready my riding lawn mower for winter storage?

By admin | April 30, 2009

happydawg asked:

I bought a Sears Craftsman riding mower this past summer. I have been working a lot in the last 2 weeks, so I havent really had time to do whatever I am supposed to do to make it run next spring after sitting in the cold garage all winter. What should I do to my lawn mower to store it for the winter months and make it start again in the spring?

You should call your local small engine repair shop. They can do tune ups.

Sears may even offer a service to your house. I think John Deere does tune ups.

The battery out and store it indoors on wooden shelf.

Good Idea to fill up your tank with gas before you store it to prevent moisture build-up, add fuel stabilizer (available at your local parts store) and as mentioned already, remove battery from mower.

Remove battery store in warm place above freezing charge it once every 8 weeks, put in a gas treatment for storage like sta-bil don’t drain gas that may dry gaskets and corrode carborator parts and/or rust tank make sure to run 15 min to get treated fuel into carborator bowl. scrape dryed grass from under mower deck and spray with oil WD-40
