Lawn Mower Reviews: Comparing Different Mowers

By admin | January 31, 2010

Terro White asked:

A lawn mover is a machine that is used to cut lawn evenly. The report covers brief synopsis on walk behind mowers that include push gas mowers and self propelled, along with corded electric, cordless, and manual reel mowers. Reviews recommend walk behind lawn for areas up to about half an acre in size. Robotic mowers can handle bigger lawns. For the biggest lawns, riding mowers and lawn tractors are best.

According to recently conducted best lawn mower reviews at Australian consumer reports, where fifty electric and gas mowers went through rigorous tests, the review rates every lawn mower on its features and ability to cut grass at an even length, as well as its performance in handling grass clippings such as bagging, mulching, and side-discharging. In addition, the mowers are tested for adaptability and rated for overall use. The brand repair records are based on annual poll of readers.

Feel Free to Surf the Web and Read As Much As You Want

Although the reports review says that manual reel mowers are the type that is just best for personal health and contributes to healthy living environment, but is it extremely important to surf the web to know about them in detail. Also, Wired magazine and Mother Earth News compare electric mowers for lawns in more detail and with emphasis on comfort. Even Choice magazine, equivalent to Australian

Consumer Reports, includes comparisons of different noise levels of gas mowers.

Noise level is essential in choosing a mower for your lawn. It is required for both neighborhood sanity and preserving one’s hearing. This is because a recently conducted survey shows that mostly users never use an ear protection.

In addition, they say that the mower’s performance and reliability do not depend on price. Expert reports say that most efficient mowers last for five to seven years on an average. Both cordless and corded lawn mowers need low routine maintenance than any gas mower, but it is true that getting their parts and service is difficult, though not impossible. Manual reel mowers can last for decades and need far less maintenance than any type of powered mower.

They are the least expensive and extremely durable option. They are best for the environment too. When kept oiled and sharpened, they can serve you for decades. However, mostly users say that they are recommended for very small yards.

Among gas lawn mowers, Toro, Honda, and, Lawn-Boy usually rank near the top in reviews. Craftsman and MTD made brands like Cub Cadet, Bolens, Troy-Bilt, or Yard Machines usually rank lower. The relatively new Troy-Bilt XP series is fetching good reviews.

Comparison reviews are reliable guides to lawn mowers performance, reliability, noise, and ease of use. They also suggest that lawn mowers though priced the same: with similar features, but vary enormously in handling grass clippings in different modes. With many mowers available in the market, it is essential to compare the different brands to choose the right one for your individual needs. Reliability, efficiency, and durability are the most important factors that you must consider when looking for a gardening power tool for your lawn. It will help in making a final decision on which mower to choose.

Small Engine Mowers Are Forced to Go Green

By admin | January 29, 2010

Ben Anton asked:

In early September 2008, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) passed new regulations that will cause small engine makers like Briggs and Stratton to rethink how they make and market their engines.

The design of new laws that seek to reduce small engine emissions by 35% is to ensure a smaller carbon footprint and save Americans money, but it will cost them initially. This is justified by the promise of a savings of 190 million gallons of gasoline each year once all small engines are converted to emission-busting standards in 2011.

As with almost any advancement in lowing lawn mower emissions the consumer will see an increase in cost with the new systems. While we may think of this change in relation to lawn mowers we can’t forget gas powered weed trimmers, hedgers and recreational watercraft.

The truth is marine equipment that relies on small engines will have to meet the new requirements by 2010. They will also be required to reduce marine motor emissions by 70%.

Most analysts are agreed that any small engine change that could affect this kind of reduction in emissions would likely require the use of a catalytic converter.

Small engine manufacturers have opposed these rules for years, and had the backing of Senator Kit Bond from Missouri who sided with manufacturers who may have considered the proposed regulations as too restrictive and feared a larger price tag might mean dissatisfied customers. Many now believe the change was either inevitable or timely depending entirely on perspective.

It has been estimated by the EPA that the changes will likely cost about $235 million a year. Most of that increase will be passed on to the consumer. Briggs and Stratton officials have made it clear the cost of their motors will go up when these new regulations take effect.

Many lawn care professionals have expressed concern over the inevitable price increase leaving some to wonder if they can continue in a business that, for some, has been a life long love affair with the outdoors. To put this in perspective a lawn care provider has already accepted the loss of revenue from higher fuel prices, but even if they replaced older equipment with lesser quality new equipment it will still cost from $35-$180 more per mower. This has the potential of eroding an already slim profit margin.

As with any report there is always another perspective. The news that excites many is a statement made by Bill Becker who heads the National Association of Clean Air Agencies. Becker stated, “This rule will be the air pollution equivalent of removing one out of every five cars and trucks on the road.”

Analysts further expect fewer deaths associated with lawn mower emissions as well as other small engine carbon based discharge.

Many retailers have already concluded that when it comes to small engine machinery they will not likely see a drop in sales, at least when it comes to mowers. The prevailing belief is that while a jet ski might be a luxury a mower is often a necessity.

Some retailers are also stocking up on existing mowers due to the fact they will be grandfathered in. Existing units will not be subject to the new EPA rules so some business owners will attempt to stockpile older units for sale even after the new regulations go into effect.

Small engine manufacturers have expressed a commitment to work with regulators to find solutions to a drop in overall emissions and will be aiming at the target dates set by the EPA.

lawn mower maintenance

Lawn Mower Maintenance

The Importance Of Lawn Mower Maintenance

Yards today have a profound significance in the daily life of individuals. Besides representing social condition, by bringing appeal and elegance to homes, they serve as refuges of harmony, meditation, rest, diversion and union to life. The effects of a vital, booming and harmonious garden are reflected on the homeowners’ conduct, drive and wellbeing.

A basic instrument to maintain your garden is a lawn mower, and the care you provide to it can either support your work or make it a complete calamity. There are different types of lawn mowers, and some of the care they require depends on the type you get. Nevertheless, there are shared lawn mower maintenance suggestions that concern any type of lawn mower.

Whatever sort you select or are counseled to buy, lawn mower maintenance is a must to conserve it in good shape and make it operational for maintaining your yard healthy and ravishing. Besides being adjusted to set off on the first pull, it has to be set to get in contact with the grass.

Lawn mower maintenance should occur prior to, during and after employing the tool.

Prior to utilizing, make a thorough checkout to seek for loose nuts and bolts which require tightening, rusty structure which needs smoothing, readying and painting or/ and old or loose wires in need of replacement or adjusting.

Assure, also, that you clean the spark plugs every season. When they seem creaky, do not bother cleaning them; change them instead. Change or clean the air filter, whatever is needed for your lawn mower. You should learn if your mower uses a paper or a foam air filter and proceed accordingly.

Lawn mower maintenance is important for a growing lawn. Lawn mower blades have to be sharp for a steady maintenance routine, as mowing the grass with straight cuts by sharp blades guarantees its flourishing growth. Dull blades tear the grass instead of cutting it straight, turning grass reactive to illness. While you mow the grass, you are essentially creating lesions that could capture illness.

Lawn mower maintenance while on mowing season implies cleaning the lawn mower’s deck about two times to enhance the instrument’s execution and bring down the scattering of illness.

After mowing season is over, the next phase on lawn mower maintenance starts. Assure you empty the fuel tank by keeping the mower running until it stops. Hold the tank empty until the subsequent mowing season, or, the worn fuel which has stayed inside the tank for so long will originate moisture and become gluey, making accumulations in the gas lines and carburetor, killing the motor. Likewise, ensure you drain the old oil on the tank and put in new oil.

If you are serious about a pastime, you search for flawlessness. A planned and rigorous lawn mower maintenance routine will assure you savor your passion and the returns completely.

Want To Find Quality Lawn Mower Blades Tips And Information

By admin | January 9, 2010

Rudy Silva asked:

Lawn mower blades are the life of every lawn mower. It is the part of the mower that mows the grass on your garden or lawn. Sharp lawnmower blades provide excellent cut on the grass because the blades are not pressured. In contrast, lawn mowers with dull blades may sever the grass in mowing, leaving your yard ugly in appearance.

Mowers today come in two classifications. These are the reel mowers and rotary mowers.  Generally, Reel mowers are self-propelled and at most, they come in high prices. The common type used at homes is the rotary mower, which has three sub-classifications. These are the hand-pushed, riding mowers and self-propelled.

Because lawn mowers are used constantly in the spring and summer, lawn mower blades get dull particularly when they are not given proper care. Lawnmower blades vary. Each design is suitable for a specific task. For example, there are mower blades for mulching and another for regular clipping. To care for your mower blades, it is recommended to sharpen them twice for every season. If your yards bear wiry-blade grasses, then your mower blades need sharpening three times per season.

Rotary mowers have flat and horizontal blade that turns according to the speed of the engine which is housed in a deck. The underside of the deck provides safety from the blades and acts as a vacuum chamber to lift the grass and produce excellent cut. If time comes when your lawn mower blades need replacement, where do you usually go?

The excellent lawnmower blades are the ones which are affordable without compromising its sharpness and durability. The decision to buy blades must be carefully planned. Many factors come into play. First, you would want your blades to do a good, clean and quick job. However, you need to ensure exactly what blades you shall need. It all depends on the type of your mower and the type of grass growing in your yard.

The second factor you need to consider is the storage. Some experts advise people to buy more than a pair of blade. It saves them time, energy and effort. When you plan to buy two lawn mower blades, you will need a safe place for its safekeeping. Or, even when you only buy a pair of blade, you will still need ample amount of space when you dismantle the lawn mower to clean it. When you do this, the lawn mower and its parts should be out of children’s reach.

In buying the lawnmower blades, warranty is important. Buy the one which issues warranty to you to avail the manufacturer’s customer services. Look for manufacturing company that guarantees reliability and assurance.

Your budget is the last consideration. How much are you willing to spend for your lawnmower blades? There are quite a number of lawn mower blades that come in affordable price and even more that are expensive. If you are wise and practical, you will take into serious thinking few elements.

The first one is the design. Excellent lawnmower blades have maximum comfort, safety, efficacy and ease of use particularly after few minutes of mowing the grass. Second, are the lawn mower blades easy to sharpen when needed? Opt for nylon material that is long lasting before replacement. Finally, its capacity to hold on the grip with its housing deck is important also. Some blades slip from its holder. Blades with strong grip are an excellent choice.

Robotic Lawn Mowers Work!

By admin | January 8, 2010

Preston asked:

These little battery operated machines take care of your yard? Yes, and they do an excellent job! When we first put in our robotic lawn mower everyone came from near and far to tell us why it would not work. Even our neighbors would come and throw sticks and leaves in front of our mower to see if it would chop them up. For two years now our robot has been out taking care of our yard. Making sure all the weeds are chopped down and our grass is perfect every day.

Now our neighbors no longer question whether this little battery operated machine can take care of our yard. Just a few weeks ago our next door neighbor installed one in his yard. Now he can go out and tend to his garden during the cool of the morning and retreat to the a/c during the heat of the afternoon and read instead of having to push that mower around.

Every morning or every other morning our mower comes out from the docking station and starts the search for tall grass. Once it finds that tall grass it makes a tight circle and slowly starts to make larger and larger cicles, cutting down all the high grass in the area. After clearing the tall grass it starts the search and destroy mission again. Once its’ battery life is drained, or it believes it has finished taking care of the yard, the mower returns to the charging station on its own to prepare for the next day’s adventure.

When I tested it by putting gas right into the spark plug opening it does turn over. So the gas is not getting into the chamber.

Why Lawn Mower Won’t Start?

By admin | December 30, 2009

Danny asked:

There are lots of instances why lawn mower won’t starts. Maybe it’s too old, fuels are clogged off, some parts are loose or damaged and need to be replaced, etc. Before you bring to repair shop you should do some personal checks to save time and money. It’s just a 1-2-3 basic check of the equipment. Below are the checklists you can do by yourself.

• First, clean the equipments. Dirt is the major problems because it usually works on grounds and the blades produce dusts that clog the engine filter and fuel filters and other parts.

• Check the fuel, if it’s the gas is from a last couple of months removes it and replace with a fresh fuel. And add enough amounts to run the engine. Obviously the engine will not start if there is no fuel.

• Fuel and air filter maybe clogged because of residue or dust from the previous use. It needs replacement or cleaning to function well.

• Remove the spark plug and clean it or replaced it with a new one. Do double check that the spark plug is properly fitted back in this is because if the spark plug is not fixed properly the fuel cannot be ignited.

• Check the wiring connections maybe it loose and need to be tight up.

• Maybe there is water in the carburetor. It must be drain with the drain plug or if there is no available drain it must repeatedly pull the starter cord to clear away the water.

Once you do all the listed items and the lawn mower won’t start. It’s the time to bring to the professional who has the equipments and tools to solve and fix the problem.

Lawn Mowers, Weed Eaters, and Edgers.oh My! a Thought on Lawn Care at Your Apartment

By admin | December 18, 2009

The Apartment Dude asked:

Yes. It can seem to happen at the most inopportune time at your apartment. Whether you are trying to study for a final exam, have an important work related phone call, or even just trying to sleep in on your only day off…you suddenly hear the annoying sound.

Its a constant buzz of lawn mowers, weed eaters, and edgers making your apartment grounds look really really nice. You often wonder why they have to do it right at that time, but I want to remind you that it always could be worse.

It could be YOU out there having to mow that lawn. YOU could have to take time out of your busy schedule or on that day off to cut the grass and pull the weeds. If you were a home owner rather than an Apartmentite, you would have to do it all yourself.

That is just another one of the HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of reasons that living in an apartment rocks! At least they aren’t making all that noise in the middle of the night and although it seems like it lasts a long time, the sound will end before too long anyway. So don’t stress.

If they weren’t doing this, you’d have a lot harder time looking for “landmines” through tall grass as you walk through the apartment grounds and it might be embarrassing to bring guests to an apartment that isn’t groomed well. The noise is nothing that earplugs can’t handle.

So the next time you hear the buzz of the lawn machines start going off at 8 AM on a Saturday, don’t throw your pillow across the room in frustration, just put it over your head to drown out the sign. Drift back to sleep knowing that you, yourself don’t have to go out there and smell like sweat and grass because it is AWESOME living in an apartment.

(PLUS…YOU NEVER HAVE TO CLEAN THE POOL EITHER)

What is the best propelled/gas lawn mower for Thick lawn?

By admin | December 15, 2009

MochaAlmondgt asked:

The walmart one I have stinks and isn’t worth it. I am looking for a good propelled gas lawnmower with a mulching and rear bag for thick grass that I don’t have to choke on the exhaust fumes, like I do with this $100 one from Walmart. In the heat it is hard pushing a mower when it doesnt want to be pushed, and when you pull the cord to start it doesnt start, tired of all that , want something better that is under $289. Appreciate all lawn fans replies.

where can i find information about a briggs and stratton lawn mower engine?

By admin | December 15, 2009

Quatro asked:

I have this old lawn mower and I am looking to use the engine for a go kart. It is the “Snapper big six” 6HP engine for a walk-behind mower by briggs and stratton. I am looking for a site where I can go to get the basics down about this mower and hopefully read a diagram about all the parts not only of the engine but of the parts of the mower too. Can anyone find a page where I can learn this? Any other tips about making go-karts!? Thank you!
