1 November 2007 - 8:01The Spring thaw and dog crap galore?
what ever asked:
We moved into a house this winter that was previously occupied by a family with 5 dogs who never picked up the poop. So now the spring thaw is upon us and we are finding obscene amounts of dog crap all over the yard. How do we take care of this as it is all , melty (ick). Is there anyway to effectively clean the lawn and have it safe for our kids to play on it?

Shovel it into garbage-bag lined buckets. Then throw it out. Any residue will dissolve and biodegrade after it rains a few times and spring comes.

as a layer of snow melts, grab a shovel & garbage bag & clean up what you see( in this town it is a by-law to double bag dog doo). try to get it all while it is still frozen so you don’t end up with too much dog poop soup
we have a dog & have to go thru that every year–no-one wants to go out when it is 40 below to pick up turds

we use a small rake and rake it into a lobby dust pan (these move on the handle so the open end it up when not place on the ground in working position), we have two dogs so I know what your problem. I also have a feeling I know what your saying to yourself about those that leave a mess like that.

We have what is called “pooper scoopers” or “On Doody” here that are professional dog picker uppers. look in your phone book and ask!
Usually after its been picked up most feecies with be flushed under the soil with the spring rain.
But, just call them or a vet!
